Born in Margate,Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa in 1986. I spent most of my childhood at the beach and in the sun. Always very passionate about music and surrounded by it. Both of my parents love music and my father gave me a healthy dose of Led Zeppelin,Uriah Heep,Cat Stevens,Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen. My Mother played piano from time to time and a love of music was instilled in me from an early age. I remember being about 5 and just rocking out to Huey Lewis and the News,Roxette,Bryan Adams,Michael Jackson etc just the classics. When I hit my teens my taste was changing and a very unhealthy obsession with Metallica followed.A group of my friends were playing some heavy covers and no one wanted to play bass,so i stepped up to the plate. My dad bought me my first bass,a Washburn Bantam and an amp that was simply known as ''The Bad Dog''. Great times followed and from hours of jamming I joined my first band at 14.A black metal band which i played in for 4 years. From Roxette to Bryan Adams,Bryan Adams to the Goo Goo Dolls and somehow I ended playing in a black metal band for 4 years. I really loved the performance and the jamming lifestyle, touring and hanging out listening to music for hours was awesome. In my final year of school the band ended and after completing my schooling I decided to take a new project overseas. Four years of trying to get a solid lineup together of like minded and good musicians never happened (IN LONDON!!!) and after many gigs, many fallouts, marriages, visas expiring and many sad faces the dream was over. My love for music was not and I began studying Bass at Tech Music Schools in West London. After completing a one year diploma and winning Bass Player of the year, my whole outlook on music changed. My ears had been opened to so much more music that I really loved and understood, and I learnt more about what music is in that one year than in my whole life. At the moment I am preparing to begin a Bmus(hons) degree at Thames Valley University as I wish to further my knowledge of music and become a better musician. As well as this I am staying very busy with session gigs for artists ranging from Hip/Hop R n B, Math Metal, Pop, Funk Jazz and also getting involved in the Gospel scene over here. I would like to take the time to thank Andrew Mckinney,Simon Horn,Graham Godfrey,Femi Temowo and John Wheatcroft for inspiring and teaching me.Showing me so much whether they did this through a lesson, a recomendation or just through their playing. I hope this site can benefit you in some way or another and I hope we can meet in the real world and have a potent jam!! Take care. G - RIDE
